Here we will learn the basics of character creation.
The first choice you will need to make will be to
choose your faction. Your options are Alliance or Horde.
The Alliance is made up of humanesque races and represent
the side of "good" while the Horde are made of more
monstrous races and represent the side of evil. Good vs
evil is very subjective here and has little to do with
your choices. For optimization purposues it is best to
research racial
traits
to decide which race on your choosen side suits your
playstyle best. Other playstyle considerations include the following:
The Horde tends to be predispositioned toward PVP so if you like PVP
alot you may want to choose horde.
Your choosen race will effect the classes you can pick from.
Class selection
Next we will be looking at class selection and it will be divided up based on the three roll types.
DPS
DPS or damage roles are the make up the
majority of the player base. Most teams consist of a
bunch of DPS and a few tanks and healers.
DPS comes
in 3 forms melee, physical ranged, and magical ranged.
All DPS is viable for end game and your choice mostly
revolves around do you want to stab things up close,
from faraway, or do you want to destroy your enemies
with magic.
The main consideration when choosing
DPS over tank or healer is queue time. Getting into group
content be it PVP, dungeons, or raids you will take longer
as DPS.
Tank
Tank is both the easiest and hardest class to play. It is
easy because with the right gear and skills it is unkillable
and unlike DPS the rotation is very easy. The reason it is
difficult is you are the leader of the group. You are
expected to know where to go as well as how many enemies
you can handle in one pull based on both healer and DPS
skill levels. Not recommended for beginner players.
Getting skilled as a tank allows for fast runs and instant
queues in dungeons. So it could be well worth the effort to
learn.
Healer
Healers are in my opinion the easiest class to play in the game. Although this only hold true if your tank isn't a psychopath wearing a wet paper bag for armor and your DPS aren't standing in the fire like a moth to the flame. Other wise it involves following the tank around occasionally throwing heals and DPSing if you feel like it. Overall a very relaxing experience with instant queue benefits for all content.
The Fun Part
The last and probably best part if this is of course customizing your toon. Wow has more than 6,02548E+12 character cusomization options while creating your character. You could spend years doing nothing but creating characters and still not see every unique combination.
